Young-Yul Kim

Young-Yul Kim, graduated from Seoul High School of Arts and Seoul National University, earned his Master of Music degree from Temple University and the Doctor of Musical Arts (as well as the Performer's Certificate) from Eastman School of Music. As a Principal Hornist, he toured Germany with the Eastman Philharmonia, and the U.S. and Canada with the Eastman Wind Ensemble and Trumpeter Wynton Marsalis. Mr. Kim has performed in recitals in Philadelphia, Rochester, Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul, Daegu, Taejeon, Jeju and, in May 1999, he was invited to give a recital by the International Horn Society's annual symposium which was held at Georgia State University. In July 2000, he received Punto Award at the 32nd IHS annual symposium held at Beijing, China. Mr. Kim has also appeared as a soloist with KBS Symphony, Seoul Chamber Orchestra, Pusan Philharmonic, Seoul Symphony, Suwon Phil, Sungnam Phil among others and was invited as concerto soloist by the Seoul Arts Center Orchestra Festival in 1992, 1995, 1999 and 2001, 2011, 2014.

He is also invited as a soloist for the Japan Horn Society's 2002 Horn Festival which was held at Hokkaido, then was invited to China and Japan Horn Festival often ever since including 2018 Asia Horn Festival held in Tokyo Japan.

He has also served as Co-principal Horn of the KBS Symphony, as Acting -principal of Puchon Philharmonic, Advisory Council of International Horn Society (2012-2016), chairman of Juju International Brass Competition (2013-2017), advisory council of Korean Symphony and Dean of College of Music Seoul National University and is currently a member of Korean Aulos Wind Quintet and Seoul Brass Quintet.

Now he serves as a Professor of College of Music at Seoul National University where he has been teaching horn and leading the SNU Wind Ensemble since 1994 and principle conductor of Gimpo Philharmonic orchestra and The Winds (Professional Wind Ensemble) and Jury member of Juju International Brass Competition since 2000.
