"Where is KBHC located?"

KBHC is held at Camp Ogontz in Lyman, New Hampshire, 12 miles south of Littleton.

"How do I get there?"

Car

Camp Ogontz is located at 14 Ogontz Road, Lyman, NH 03585

Approximate driving times to major cities are as follows:

Boston, 3 hours; New York City, 6 hours; Washington DC, 10 hours; Cleveland, 12 hours; Montreal, 3 hours.

Air

There are two options for air travel. Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (1’45’’ drive) is served by the major domestic airlines with convenient service nationwide. Boston Logan Airport (3’ drive) has more domestic flights and is served by many international carriers.

While it’s extraordinarily helpful to our small staff for participants to provide their own transportation all the way to Camp Ogontz, we realize that there will be some situations in which participants will need help getting from the airport to camp. If necessary, KBHC staff can pick up participants or arrange for ride-sharing between participants arriving at the Manchester Airport.

Participants flying to Boston Logan who are in need of ride-sharing should plan to take the bus to Concord or Franconia in order to be picked up by a KBHC staff member or by another participant. (See “Bus” below.)

Air travel with a horn

Air travel with a horn can be an adventure, and getting your horn to camp in pristine condition can take some advance planning. For that reason, it’s important to check with your airline regarding its checked-baggage policies and the dimensions of the overhead bin and under-seat space before confirming your travel plans.

It should be noted that a standard horn case, even one with a hard shell, is unlikely to protect your horn adequately if you should decide to check it at the airport rather than carrying it on the plane with you. If, however, your case is too large for the space allotted, packing the horn appropriately so that it can travel as checked baggage can alleviate stress and help you to avoid a scene at the gate.

Please do your very best to find a way to bring your horn to camp as a carry-on item. If, however, that simply isn’t possible, here is a link to an article that provides instructions for keeping your horn safe as it travels:

Note for Unaccompanied Minors

Please check with your airline regarding policies for unaccompanied minors. The majority of our high school participants are able to fly as an adult, making it easy for KBHC staff to simply pick them up and drop them off at the airport as necessary. If your high school participant will be traveling as an unaccompanied minor, they will have to be supervised by an airline employee until a KBHC staff member or other designee is able to pick them up, and they’ll have to be accompanied all the way to security when we take them back to the airport. With such a small participant-to-faculty ratio and an attentive staff, (not to mention that the Manchester airport is pretty small) we’re going to do our very best to make sure that they are safe and comfortable and that they are where they need to be on time. If your high school student can be ticketed as an adult, please have them do so.

Bus

Concord Coach Lines runs buses from Boston Logan to Concord, NH (about 1 1/2 hours from Camp Ogontz) and from Boston Logan to Franconia, NH (about 20 minutes from Camp Ogontz). While it’s extraordinarily helpful to our small staff for participants to provide their own transportation all the way to Camp Ogontz, we realize that there will be some situations in which participants will need help getting from the bus station to camp. If necessary, KBHC staff can pick up participants or arrange for ride-sharing between participants arriving at the bus stations in Concord and Franconia.

"When should I arrive at camp? When should I depart?"

Arrivals

Participants should arrive at Ogontz between 1 PM and 4 PM on their arrival day, June 9th or June 17th. Upon arrival at camp, they’ll want to get settled into their cabins and will also need to warm up and complete a brief assessment of their aural skills before dinner and our first camp meeting of the week. Because many participants will be arriving on the same day and will need to do the same, early really is best.

For an on-time arrival to Ogontz, flight arrivals into Manchester should be no later than 1:30 PM. Bus arrivals to Concord should be no later than 2:30 PM. Participants bussing to Franconia should plan to take the first bus of the day, arriving at 11:35 AM.

If an on-time arrival on June 9th isn’t possible, we can arrange to pick participants up in Manchester, Concord, and Franconia on June 8th. The cost for the extra night at Ogontz, including meals, will be $74.12.

If an on-time arrival on June 17th isn’t possible, we can arrange to pick participants up in Franconia on June 16th. The cost for the extra night at Ogontz, including meals, will be $74.12.

Departures

On departure days, June 16th and 24th, the earliest that staff-provided transportation will depart for the Concord bus station and the Manchester airport will be 8:00 AM. For participants taking this option, the earliest possible bus departure from Concord and flight time from Manchester will be the same, 11 AM for both locations.

KBHC staff will provide transportation to the bus station in Franconia for the 7 AM departure.

Participants with their own transportation may leave any time before 10 AM on their departure day.

Participants for Week 1 only who must delay their departure from Ogontz past 10 AM on June 16th will be charged $74.12 for each additional night spent at Camp Ogontz.

Staying an extra night at Ogontz after June 24th isn’t an option; they have another camp coming in on the same day that we depart.
