In a May 6th match for the ages (well, a match
that aged us anyway), Geary/Tennis (Geary, Ebben)
won on the first extra hole over Team Runde (Dan
Runde, Schoenherr) when Ebben drove the green on
hole #3 for an easy birdie just 28 days later.

No Longer Thinking 5

The most hotly contested match this week featured
_____________ (B. Schindler, D. Schindler), who
shot 36, vs. Rich Wood (Weishoff, Sarver), who
tied for the week's second low round with 35.
Only one hole was halved as Rich Wood fought back
from 3 down to 1 down, before ______________
finally won 5 - 3. Apparently not subscribing to
the "what's in a name" theory of names,
_____________ is still thinking about their name
and are, consequently, still Still Thinking.
Chris Berman stopped by the office here at ESPN
Spring Brook and The Swami took Thanksgiving in
the When Will ______________ Finally Pick a Name
Pool.

Two Putz 0

This match was Forfeit by Two Putz, who are now
on Double-Secret Probation until the reason for
forfeiture is determined. (BTW, these game
comments serve not only to highlight the results
each week, but also to share information among
league members in a new and growing league.) The
league has the dimmest possible view of
forfeiture. The entire purpose of 3-person
rosters, unlimited non-rostered substitutions,
and no postponements without permission is to
insure the future of the league by preserving its
essential element--the camaraderie of the group.
A team that causes unwarranted forfeiture twice
cannot continue in the league. Warranted forfeits
might be: entire roster kidnapped by aliens and
groped repeatedly, or team trapped in vehicle,
unable to dial cell phone after running into a
herd of moose on the way to match. In other
words: no-call, no-show is not acceptable.

Team Mawby 4

Although Polished Balls (J. Bahe, Borota) shot 34
for the low round of the week, they were defeated
by Team Mawby (J. Mawby, Millard), 4 - 2.
Polished had to give 6 strokes, but their balls
apparently became tarnished as they lost two
holes outright, costing them the match. Local
pundits expect them to be polishing furiously all
week in an effort to regain their lustre.

5:15 pm Team Runde 3
Who's That 4

Lorinda Funmaker teamed with Kerry Funmaker to
shoot 38 and earn the first Tuesday Scramble
League point won by a female player as they
defeated Team Runde (Dan, Dave), 39, 4 - 3.

Team To Beat 6

An unconfirmed rumor has it that Mor, Peter, &
the Wolf (Mor, Elftmann) hit their second shot on
#7 from behind the women's tee. This is only
noted here to illustrate how demeaning and
humiliating spurious conversation can be. We
should all be careful not to pass along
undocumented information. Pay no attention to
that story, because it's most likely untrue.

This was the famous (or imfamous) Anniversary
Match. While the league pled innocent to the
charge of callous disregard leveled by one of the
principals in the Elftmann Anniversary, the match
was all square after nine holes. And, a surprise
to the participants, also all square after the
first extra hole. Clubs were retrieved from
vehicles and two more extra holes were played
before the other principal in the Elftmann
Anniversary decided to postpone the match before
being forced to change his location on the choir
riser. Ultimately, the match was decided on the
fourth extra hole after the third start of the
match in favor of Mor, Peter, & the Wolf (W.
Holzem, Anniversary Boy Elftmann).

Two Putz 0

Two of the three old guys of 3 Old Guys (Fish,
Volkey) shot the team's low round of the year,
34, to shut out Two Putz (M. Hess, Shanks) 5-0.
Two Putz. I don't know about the rest of the
league, but this ESPN Spring Brook reporter is
still miffed he didn't come up with that name.

5:15 pm Mor Peter and the Wolf 5
Team Mawby 1

Mor, Peter, & the Wolf (Mor, Wolfram) hunted down
Team Mawby (J. Mayby, B. Mawby) like a pack of,
um..., ah... oh well, like a pack of something or
other and defeated them 5-1.
Tuesday, June 03, 2008 2A
5:15 pm Team To Beat 2
Team Morgan 1

Team To Beat (T. Fisher, Marshall) held on to win
2-1 over Team Morgan (Anchor, Eck). Some
confusion has been noted around the league
regarding Team To Beat. This ESPN Spring Brook
(ESPNSB) reporter was privy to some early info
that indicated the name to mean A Team to Beat,
rather than THE Team to Beat. Could it be that
Team to Beat, now over .500, is becoming THE Team
to Beat?

5:15 pm Arps Hardware 4
Fore Play 5

Fore Play (Sorci, Phaneuf) 5, Arps Hardware
(Braun, Parfievich) 4. One of two 5-4 matches
this week. The hitters are obviously ahead of the
pitchers this time of the season.
Tuesday, June 03, 2008 3A
5:15 pm Hicks With Sticks 2
Stubby's 3

Stubby's (Stapleford, Ryan) won the last two
holes to take the match, 3-2, from Hicks With
Sticks (Shane, Ryan).
Tuesday, June 03, 2008 3B
5:15 pm The Three Amigos 3
Polished Balls 2

Although Polished Balls (Borota, Ebben) continue
to hold the low average in the TSL (32.5), they
lost to The Three Amigos (Funne, Wyssbrod) who
sped to a 3-2 victory after an unscheduled pit
stop, washing two tires and both players taking
on fuel.

5:15 pm Pocket Aces 2
No Longer Thinking 4

The TSL would, at this time, like to offer a
formal and public apology to No Longer Thinking.
Temporarily named Still Thinking because they
were, um, still thinking, they ultimately
selected the name No Longer Thinking which the
TSL erroneously published as Done Thinking. As No
Longer Thinking is clearly more clever than the
dumbed-down Done Thinking, TSL apologizes for the
error which potentially allowed some teams to
form an opinion that the Thinkers suffer,
perhaps, from CDD or Cleverness Deficit Disorder,
which couldn't be further from the truth. Done
Thinking (B. Schindler, D. Schindler) prevailed
4-2, in a cleverly played match, over Pocket Aces
(Ryan, Bullock). Now that our apology is complete
to the Team Formerly Known As Still Thinking, No
Longer Thinking, who were never Done Thinking,
please don't bother me, I'm still thinking about
this...

5:15 pm Irish, 'Stache, and The Chef 1
Rich Wood 4

Just 1-up after 7 holes, Rich Wood (Weishoff,
Sarver) birdied their last two holes to defeat
Irish, 'Stache, & the Chef (Leary, Krueger), 4-1

5:15 pm Geary/Tennis 2
Team Vantage 1

Geary/Tennis (Geary,Tennis) used their handicap
strokes to halve both par 5s and to win hole #1,
defeating Team Vantage (Eck, Doherty), the Skin
Kings, 2-1. This week's skin hole was tied with
birdies, but only two teams (neither of these)
managed to birdie the par-5 4th hole. Three
week's carry-over!

5:15 pm Chalet Lanes 1
Who's That 5

TSL rookie Nelson of Chalet Lanes (Nelson,
Smith), commented about how helpful and polite
opponents Who's That (K. Funmaker, Cleveland)
were during their match. Kudos to them and all
who allow the etiquette of golf to augment the
competitive experience. Who's That used 3 birdies
and and eagle 2 on hole #3 to win 5-1 and remain
undefeated. Perhaps the answer to Who's That? is:
a team to be reckoned with.
Tuesday, June 03, 2008 7B
5:15 pm JAM 5
Team Runde 4

In a match between two teams who must fast break
at every opportunity, JAM (Zoellick, Warmuth)
broke last, winning 5-4 over Team Runde (Dan
Runde, Schoenherr).
