Thank you for visiting the Homepage of the STATEN ISLAND TOUCH TACKLE LEAGUE. The SITTL was established in 1956. It is the longest continuously running Touch Football League in the World! The league has been run by its President, Charlie Margiotta for over 53 years.
The Staten Island Touch Tackle League is a men's league comprised of highly competitive athletes ranging in age between 18 and 50. The league provides a venue for former High School, College, Amateur, and even Pro football players, to continue to enjoy and excel at a sport they love.
The Staten Island Touch Tackle League has 5 divisions: EAST, WEST, NORTH, SOUTH, & CENTRAL. The teams are fully uniformed. Each game has 4 referees and a statistician. All-stars are selected at the end of each season and are determined by the league statistics. The East Division features the leagues premier players. It is comprised of the most skilled football players the New York City area has to offer. The teams in the EAST are veteran teams which have won championships over the years in some of the other divisions, and have progressively moved up from year to year.
The other divisions of the league are highly competitive and offer a wide range of skill levels. The players may be new to the game with very little experience. They may be veterans on the tail end of playing careers, just hoping their knees will hold out for one more season. The entire league is blanketed with former high school and college stars who share a passion for the game of football.
Every team in the league, regardless of their division, plays 7 or 8 Sunday games, and 2 night games, for a total of 9 or 10 regular season games. Those games determine each divisional Pennant Champ. Following the regular season, all teams enter single elimination Divisional Playoffs to determine the Playoff Champions. Finally, all teams enter our League Tournaments to determine Tournament Champions. The ultimate goal of any team is to be a TRIPLE CROWN winner; Pennant, Playoff and Tournament Champions.
It is during the Tournament portion of our season that League teams get to test their skills against teams in other Divisions, based on the outcome of the Regular season. We also invite any team from around the country, to enter our Tournaments and see how they match up against the teams of the Staten Island Touch Tackle League.
Ten years ago, because of mild winters and a demand to fill a void between the football and softball season, the WINTER LEAGUE was born. The Winter League was renamed the Lt. Chuck Margiotta Winter League after 9/11. Lt. Chuck Margiotta was the son of League President, Charlie Margiotta. Chuck was killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center and was a tremendous football player. Chuck was a HS star, a member of the 1976 Brown University Ivy League Championship Football Team, running back for the FDNY and a 12 year veteran of the SITTL.
The fall season, playoffs and tournaments for the SITTL, commence in September and end right before Christmas. The Winter League begins in mid-January and ends in mid-April.
